Wednesday, August 31

Group Meeting: The children started the day by dancing to “If You’re a Kid”. We use the Promethean board to do movement videos.

Story: The story for today was Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni.  Little Blue has a best friend, Little Yellow.  They love to play together.  One day, Little Blue was excited to see Little Yellow.  They hugged each other and turned green.  When they returned home, their parents did not recognize them.  Ask your child to tell you how they returned to Little Blue and Little Yellow.

Small Groups:  Following the story, the children sat at a table with four other children.  They shared liquid watercolors of red, blue and yellow.  They dropped the colors onto wax paper and mixed them with Q-tips.

Large Group:  The children went to the Outdoor Classroom.  It was a little warm, so we didn't stay out long.

Snack:  The snack for today was bananas and milk.  We are learning to pour from the pitchers.  So far, so good ;)

Tuesday, August 30th

Group Meeting:  We will be taking a slow approach to the beginning of the school year.  There is so much to learn during the first few weeks.  Today, we again started with introductions and talking about names.

Story:  The story for today was Monster Knows Please and Thank You by Connie Colwell Miller.  In this story, Monster is having a play date.  He knows the polite words to use when asking for and receiving things from his friends.

After the story, I introduced my two friends Zoey and Matt (puppets).  Zoey and Matt know a lot about preschool.  For the next two weeks, they will be telling the children about they learned to use good manners with their friends.

Large Group:  The children went to the Outdoor Classroom to explore.

Snacks:  The snack for today was Teddy Grahams and juice.  The children learned to pick up a plate, cup and napkin to take to their seat.  We use family style service so the children will be learning how to pass a basket of snacks so that everyone will receive one.  They also learned to pour juice or water from a small pitcher into a cup.

We had a great day today! I hope that your child has a lot to tell you.
